Abstract
A patient with multiple endocrine neoplasia Type 3 syndrome is described, with emphasis on the laboratory findings and oral-facial manifestations. Also of interest are the demonstration of tissue calcitonin in the medullary thyroid carcinoma by immunoperoxidase staining and the persistence of elevated serum calcitonin levels after removal of the patient's primary tumor and regional metastatic disease. The reason for this persistent evaluation of serum calcitonin may be due to the presence of occult metastatic disease.
