Abstract
Corneal rust is mobilized as a result of topical therapy with deferoxamine mesylate. Therapy, however, is effective only as long as re-epithelialization is not complete. This is explained by the poor penetrance of the drug through an intact epithelial barrier. Medical therapy offers significant advantages over surgical debridement in certain clinical circumstances.
