Abstract

A 16 1/2 yr old boy with bilateral gynecomastia is described. He exhibited an increased urinary titer of estrogen, pregnanetriol and neutral 17 ketosteroids but normal 17 hydroxycorticoids. The urinary excretion of neutral 17 ketosteroids fell after administration of a glucocorticoid. The adrenals and testes were free of tumor. Histologically the testes revealed hypospermatogenesis, thickening and fibrosis of the walls of the seminiferous tubules and no increase in Leydig's cells. The sex chromatin was negative. The diagnosis was feminizing non tumorous adrenocortical syndrome.
