Abstract

An innovative technology for nutrient removal from soybean wastewater was developed by using alternating oxic/anoxic operation and the real-time process control, and it was combined with shortcut nitrification-denitrification. The shortcut nitrification-denitrification was performed in three kinds of operation modes: shortcut nitrification-denitrification by traditional sequencing batch reactor (SBR) operation, shortcut nitrification-denitrification by alternating oxic/anoxic operation under the fixed-time control and shortcut nitrification-denitrification by alternating oxic/anoxic operation under the on-line fuzzy control. Results show that the shortcut nitrification-denitrification by alternating oxic/anoxic operation under the on-line process control is the best. It can not only improve both nitrification and denitrification rates and decrease the total reaction time, save the carbon source and alkalinity, but also shorten the reaction time and save the operation cost.
