Abstract

Directional atherectomy has established a definitive role in the treatment of specific coronary lesion subsets such as eccentric, ostial, or ulcerated lesions in large vessels. The success rate is 90% or more and the complication rate low. We review the equipment, the procedure, and the current status of directional atherectomy in interventional cardiology in light of both randomized and nonrandomized trials.
