Abstract

o-Nitrobenzeneacetic acid was prepared by condensation of o-nitrotoluene with diethyl oxalate, hydrolysis and oxidation. It was further converted to o- halobenzeneacetic acids by reduction, diazonation and Sandmeyer reaction, o- halobenzeneacetic acids have been prepared from cheap raw material o-nitrotoluene with satisfactory results, a new method was provided for preparing o- halobenzeneacetic acids.
