Abstract
A patient with transient erythrocytosis which was confirmed by blood volume studies and an angiographically verified transient occlusion of a middle cerebral artery is described. The studies performed and a four year follow-up excluded polycythemia vera, anoxic erythrocytosis and relative polycythemia. Despite this case report and the abundant literature, the relationship between the central nervous system and erythropoiesis remains undetermined.
