Abstract

Background: Activity-dependent amyloid β (Aβ) generation requires endosomal proteolytic cleavage of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). Results: Mints are adaptor proteins that regulate APP endocytosis and insertion at the plasma membrane upon activity induction or inhibition. Conclusion: Mints are necessary for activity-induced APP trafficking and Aβ generation. Significance: Insight into the cell biology and molecules controlling APP trafficking is essential in understanding Aβ pathogenesis.
