Abstract

Glass of 60SiO2-15CaO-10Al2O3-10Na2O-5TiO2 composition was synthesized. Crystallization behavior was monitored by differential thermal analysis and thermal gravimetric analysis. Structural analysis was done by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. A protective coating of this glass was developed on duplex steel substrate. The interfacial characteristic of glass-duplex steel was analyzed under scanning electron microscope. To monitor the stability of coating even at high temperature, the thermal expansion coefficient of glass and steel was observed separately. This study demonstrates that the glass used in present investigation can protect the surface of steel even under adverse environmental conditions.
