Abstract

The monitoring programme of the faculty of medicine at the University of Cologne represents a sociologic approach to teaching medicine and was carried out as a pilot project over the period from the winter semester 2002/2003 to the summer semester 2004. The success of the programme led to it's inclusion in the medical curriculum of the University of Cologne. The specific work requirements of forensic pathologists fully qualifies him for the role of mentor, enables him to make an effective contribution to similar projects and, at the same time, permits him to benefit from the new responsibilities.
