Abstract
These studies suggest that random adversive stimuli in rats can lead to a reasonable model of depression and that the exposure to adverse stimuli in genetically susceptible animals leads to long-term CNS changes which are correlated with long-term behavioral changes. This model is a good screen for antidepressant drugs, and all active drugs tested appear to specifically down-regulate hippocampal beta receptors.
