Abstract

To the Editor: A recent Sounding Board article, “Medicine and the Aged,” by Dr. Alexander Leaf (N Engl J Med 297:887–890, 1977), makes a strong case for improved education of medical students and physicians in the care of the elderly, as well as for improved health-delivery systems for the elderly. A briefer, somewhat similar theme was voiced in a letter by Dr. Alex Comfort (N Engl J Med 297:674, 1977). These communications, however, might incorrectly suggest that training and educational models in this field do not exist in the United States.1 The educational and health-care programs currently offered at our. No extract is available for articles shorter than 400 words.
