Abstract

To the Editor: The commentary by Fletcher and Evans* on maternal bonding through the use of early fetal ultrasound examinations struck me as very interesting, particularly since I noted that this bonding occurred in my own pregnancy. I thought at the time that the physician had a very powerful tool on hand for a variety of uses, not all of which were strictly medical. Besides the obvious implications for the abortion question, mentioned by Fletcher and Evans, the actual visualization of the “child” might have a very strong impact on patient compliance in the areas of nutrition and drug or.
