Abstract

Patients with acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC) are at increased morbidity and mortality risk and represent a particular challenge for physicians and health systems due to their clinical complexity and high cost of care. How to choose the appropriate drugs, how to safely transition from one drug to the next, predictors of poor outcomes, and when to request a surgical consultation will be reviewed.
