Abstract
Despite the development of both thrombolysis and coronary angioplasty since the mid-1970s, most deaths in patients hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction result from the development of cardiogenic shock. But cardiogenic shock can be managed effectively by diagnosis and aggressive treatment of the underlying coronary pathology.
