Abstract
The results of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Suppression Trial suggest that anti- arrhythmic drug prophylaxis of high grade ectopy should be avoided in post- myocardial infarction (MI) patients. However, survival of post-MI patients with sustained ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation can be improved by an aggressive approach consisting of electrophysiologic-guided drug therapy, map-guided surgery, revascularization, and use of the automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
