Abstract

Lung cancer is an aggressive disease that can present with diverse clinical scenarios. Early stage disease can be treated with curative surgery. Locally advanced disease should be treated by a multidisciplinary group with chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Although the intent is curative, relapses are common. Patients with advanced disease should undergo rigorous pathologic examination to identify activating mutations, and patients with mutations should be treated with specific targeted therapies. Patients without mutations can obtain a survival benefit from systemic chemotherapy and maintenance in the first line setting, and immunotherapy in the second line setting.
