Abstract

The use of low molecular weight heparin is well established in the treatment of thromboembolic disease, especially with regards to deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremities. What is not well documented in the literature is its role as anticoagulant therapy in the treatment of upper extremity deep venous thrombosis. We present a case series of four patients, two with spontaneous or effort related, one with trauma induced, and one with idiopathic upper extremity deep venous thrombosis, that were successfully treated using the low molecular weight heparin enoxaparin as part of their anticoagulant regimen in an outpatient setting.
