Abstract
The tolerance of long distance swimmers to cold water has, in the past, been attributed to the increased insulation afforded by subcutaneous fat. In this paper evidence is presented to show that modern competitive distance swimmers are relatively lean. Habituation changes were shown in two of three swimmers who were monitored during static immersion and on swimming.
