Lanthanum(III) and praseodymium(III) complexes with macrocyclic ligands containing pendant functional groups

The free Schiff base macrocycles containing pendant groups have been synthesized by the condensation reactions of N, N-diphenylsuccinamide/adipamide, N, N-dipyridylsuccinamide/adipamide with ethylenediamine. The reactions of these ligands with lanthanum(III)/praseodymium(III) chlorides have been carried out in ethanol and macrocyclic complexes of type [LnCb(mac)] have been isolated. Tentative structures of the complexes have been proposed on the basis of elemental analyses, electrical conductance, magnetic moment and spectral (IR, electronic, ¹H NMR) data. The metal ions have seven-coordinated geometry.
