Lanthanum(III) and praseodymium(III) complexes with macrocyclic ligands containing pendant functional groups

Abstract

The free Schiff base macrocycles containing pendant groups have been synthesized by the condensation reactions of N, N-diphenylsuccinamide/adipamide, N, N-dipyridylsuccinamide/adipamide with ethylenediamine. The reactions of these ligands with lanthanum(III)/praseodymium(III) chlorides have been carried out in ethanol and macrocyclic complexes of type [LnCb(mac)] have been isolated. Tentative structures of the complexes have been proposed on the basis of elemental analyses, electrical conductance, magnetic moment and spectral (IR, electronic, 1H NMR) data. The metal ions have seven-coordinated geometry.
