Abstract

The crystal structures of the compounds L-methionium chloride and L-selenomethioninium were analyzed at 103 K. The protonated molecules of the compounds were found to have almost identical conformations and created very similar contacts with the Cl- anions in the crystal structures. The amino acid cations and the Cl- anions were linked through N-H···Cl- and O-H···Cl - hydrogen bonds. In the structures of both the compounds, both hydrophobic and hydrophilic layers were present.
