Abstract
To the Editor: Levey et al. (April 3 issue)1 state that kidney “transplantation from unrelated donors is an acceptable practice and that for many patients on dialysis, it may be the preferred treatment.” We question some of the arguments used to support this statement. Whether or not transplantation from living unrelated donors will become an accepted or common practice, however, ultimately rests on the philosophy of the transplantation program and the recognition of the relationships between certain unrelated donors and transplant recipients.
