Abstract

To the Editor: Epsilon aminocaproic acid, which has been categorized as an effective inhibitor of the fibrinolytic system of normal hemostasis, has been used for hemophilic patients, having been found to be effective in diminishing the frequency of postoperative transfusion in patients undergoing tooth extractions.1,2 In a protocol study, hemophilic patients requiring one or more dental extractions receive a preoperative infusion of factor VIII to elevate the deficient factor to a hemostatic level. As soon as possible after operation, 6 g of epsilon aminocaproic acid (kindly supplied as Amicar by Lederle Laboratories, Pearl River, New York) is administered by mouth,.
