Abstract
In properly selected patients, 80% can be expected to ovulate, and approximately 50% become pregnant with Clomid therapy. The rate of pregnancies per induced 'ovulatory' cycle is about 15%. In accumulated national statistics, the multiple pregnancy rate is approximately 8%. Almost all of the multiple births have been twins; there have been three quintuplet and one sextuplet birth. A multiple pregnancy has not yet been encountered in the author's experience. The abortion rate is 20%. Most importantly, the incidence of congenital malformations is not increased, and infant survival and performance after delivery are not different from normal. There is no evidence that the effect of clomiphene is long lasting. A response must be expected to be limited to the cycle in which the drug is used.
