Abstract

There is a growing body of evidence that early initiation of lipid-lowering therapy offers patients benefits in terms of reduced risk of CHD, recurrent coronary events, and death, which obligates all physicians to reassess their current practice. Involved as they are in ways to improve efficiency and quality of care within their institutions, hospitalists are the natural champions of initiatives to ensure that lipid-lowering therapy becomes an integral part of management protocols for patients with CHD, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
