The normal host will develop immune tolerance to ingested food nutrients. When oral tolerance fails to develop, however, a variety of hypersensitivity disorders may develop secondary to immunopathogenic mechanisms. The immunologic mechanisms responsible for various food hypersensitivity disorders are reviewed.
