Abstract

The diagnosis and management of pulmonary embolism (PE) is based on multimodality diagnostic and imaging tests including, but not limited to, electrocardiography, echocardiography, compression ultrasonography, computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), lung scintigraphy, and pulmonary angiography. We risk stratify patients with pulmonary embolism based on their clinical presentation, their right ventricle function and their level of cardiac biomarkers into four categories: high risk PE, intermediate high risk PE, intermediate low risk PE and, low risk PE. In this chapter we describe four patients who presented to our healthcare system with PE. Each of these patients presents one of these categories.
