Abstract

Destructive gouty arthritis has been shown to be a multifactorial disease demonstrating variability in its manifestations. Physicians must be prepared to navigate a complicated treatment algorithm ranging from numerous nonoperative therapies to operative intervention. If a patient is treated properly from the time of diagnosis, a surgical procedure should rarely be necessary.
