Abstract
The recent discovery that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may be relatively common in older persons is important for two reasons: therapy may be directed more specifically toward the correct cause of symptoms, and the natural history of the disease must be revised to take into account the group of patients who may survive into a relatively healthy old age despite the apparent progressive nature of a disorder usually considered to have an ominous prognosis.
