Abstract

Secondary hypercholesterolemia may be the first objective sign of hypothyroidism. The signs and symptoms may be subtle, and the diagnosis can be delayed. Because hypothyroidism is common and easily treated, thyroid function tests should be considered in the evaluation of children and adolescents who present with hypercholesterolemia, especially if growth retardation has been observed. We present two cases of secondary hypercholesterolemia due to hypothyroidism.
