Abstract

Hypercalcemia is a relatively common disorder with significant clinical impact. Mild chronic hypercalcemia can produce low-grade but long-lasting symptoms that surreptitiously interfere with routine daily activities. Severe acute hypercalcemia is fatal if not recognized and treated immediately. Medical and surgical therapies for hypercalcemia have evolved over time, allowing improved management of affected patients. The aim of this chapter is to review the basis, recognition, and management of hypercalcemia.
