Abstract
A discussion on processes presented at the 56th Annual NPRA Technology Q&A (2002, Philadelphia, PA) covers determination on whether the new sophisticated feed distributors and/or quench zone devices provide benefits in achieving clean fuels specifications; designing or revamping a unit for very low sulfur diesel (< 50 ppm); experience in solving diesel color problems when treating LCO, coker stocks, or blends containing these streams; refiners' experiences regarding reactor exotherms when activating ex-situ presulfided hydrotreating catalyst; synergies that can be realized by optimizing the FCC feed hydrotreater with the FCC unit; and benefits of segregating hydrotreating feedstocks either by boiling range (e.g., light VGO vs. heavy VGO) or by source (e.g., straight run diesel vs. FCC LCO or VGO vs. coker gas oil).
