Abstract
The State mental hospital system, and the patients in it, are in danger of being 'phased out' without an effective alternative source of care being available. It is an abrogation of their responsibility if psychiatrists and other mental health professionals allow the existing poor treatment of mental patients to be replaced with something even worse.
