Abstract

This chapter discusses the increasing use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), vitamins, and natural hepatotoxins and why hepatotoxicity has become a major problem associated with these treatments. Diagnosis, treatment, and the pathophysiology of hepatotoxicity from these agents are outlined. Examples of specific hepatotoxic products are cited, and drug-product interactions pertinent to patients having chronic liver disease are reviewed.
