N2 - Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major cause of chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis, with an estimated 350 million people worldwide infected with the virus. Despite continuing advances in antiviral therapy, a cure for chronic HBV infection is considered an elusive goal. Thus, primary prevention by immunization with HBV vaccines remains the most effective means to control the transmission of HBV infection.
