A discussion on general utilities presented at the 56th annual NPRA technology Q&A (2002, Philadelphia) covers the essential safety shutdowns causes on a sulfur recovery unit; the concerns/controls for liquid sulfur storage; monitoring CO from the sulfur recovery unit tail gas incinerator; recent experience on pressure drop build up across the Claus waste heat boiler; the instruments commonly used to perform the laboratory analysis for measuring SRU efficiencies and how is the sample safely collected; the preferred way to measure liquid sulfur production for efficiency calculations; and percentage of the total increased capacity added through the use of oxygen enrichment.
