Abstract
Studies confirm that food allergies affect as much as 2.5% of the adult population. Emerging knowledge of the mechanisms is opening avenues for specific immunologic interventions, some of which have now entered clinical trials. At present, physicians can help patients to avoid allergens and can address the risk of anaphylaxis.
