Abstract

To research the plate curvature effect on eddy-current testing of gap between curved plates, the finite element method for electromagnetic field is used to compute the planar coil impedance with different plate curvature. The normalized impedance plane is attained. Then the error processing method to the plate curvature effect is presented for the accurate measurement of gap between curved plates. The analytical results show that the plate curvature approximately induces variations of the planar coil normalized impedance according to straight lines when the average gap between curved plates is unchanged. Furthermore, the coil normalized impedance is away from the point of zero curvature with the curvature augmenting and the impedance separately varies in opposite directions for concave and convex curvature cases.
