Abstract

An analysis was made of the results of 135 patients subjected to surgery for massive gastroduodenal hemorrhage. The over all mortality rate of 24.4% varied with the rate of bleeding, diagnosis, timing of surgery, the presence of coexisting disease. The causes of failure were analyzed and guidelines for reducing the mortality rate suggested.
