Abstract
Attempts to produce uveitis in guinea pigs by sensitization to heterologous uveal protein using a wide range of methods are described. The following conclusions were drawn: 1. 1. Uveitis was produced using a heterologous ocular protein (uvea) as antigen. 2. 2. Only a mild uveitis could be produced using extraocular methods. 3. 3. The most successful experimental procedure was intraocular (preferably intravitreous) or subconjunctival injection of uvea in an animal sensitized to uvea. 4. 4. Sympathetic ophthalmia (uveitis in the contralateral nontraumatized eye) occurred in six guinea pigs which had been sensitized to uvea. 5. 5. There was no relationship between precipitating antibody concentration and the development of uveitis.
