Abstract

Exfoliation syndrome results from a metabolic disorder within the eye that can lead to exfoliative glaucoma. The latter is a severe form of secondary open-angle glaucoma, found worldwide. The elevated intraocular pressure in exfoliative glaucoma is typically markedly elevated, difficult to control medically and often necessitating surgical intervention.
