Abstract
For intensive treatment, insulin action should be of rapid onset and short duration and effective in reducing postprandial hyperglycemia. In an open, randomised crossover study a total of 14 type-I- and type-II-diabetic patients were treated intensively with Lispro-insulin versus human regular insulin. The postprandial serum insulin levels rose faster and higher following Lispro- versus regular insulin. The rise in postprandial blood glucose was significantly lower following Lispro-insulin; HbA(1c), however, did not improve. Hypoglycemic reaction did not increase. In conclusion, patients perceived an improvement in their postprandial hyperglycemia and their well being. Lispro-insulin seems to be a right step in direction of a more physiological insulin treatment.
