Abstract
I was asked to write about the stories of my experience in the field of enteroscopy, I am aware that it may not be the most interesting read, but it does show, in this small field, the constant march of Medicine and how technology has improved our knowledge to better treat our patients. It also documents how many of our advancements in the field of small bowel endoscopy were helped by work done here in New York City. Enteroscopy was initially called the “dark continent” of endoscopy and was later described as the “last frontier of endoscopy.” Though push enteroscopy and later balloon-assisted enteroscopy remain, the techniques of total small bowel enteroscopy, for example, rope-way and sonde enteroscopy, have been abandoned and replaced by capsule endoscopy.
