Abstract

Colonoscopy is a new diagnostic tool in inflammatory bowel disease, and the specific indications for its use are reviewed in the chapter. Patients for colonoscopy must be carefully chosen and prepared gently. The ability to visualize mucosal coloration as well as vascular patterns and to take biopsies adds a new dimension to the differential diagnosis of ulcerative and granulomatous colitis. The roles of ileoscopy and upper gastrointestinal patient with ulcerative colitis and granulomatous bowel disease.
