Abstract
Emphysematous cholecystitis is an uncommon but potentially lethal form of acute cholecystitis. Preoperative diagnosis can be confirmed by abdominal x-rays. The common causative organism is Clostridium perfringens. Early operation, cholecystectomy or possibly cholecystostomy, plus appropriate antibiotics, appears to be the best method of treatment.
