Abstract
Picrotoxin, a γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) antagonist, injected intravenously depressed the mutual inhibition of Renshaw cells but this effect was accompanied by a reduction in the excitation of Renshaw cells by motoneurone recurrent collaterals. Bicuculline, another GABA antagonist, did not modify either the excitation or mutai inhibition of Renshaw cells. It is considered unlikely that Renshaw cells contain a pool of GABA that can be released by nerve impulses.
