Abstract

RIVER DYNAMICS, GLOBAL CHANGE AND HUMAN PRESSURE IN EBRO BASIN, CHANNEL AND DELTA. The river Ebro and its tributaries has undergone very remarkable changes since 1950. They have suffered marked process of simplification and stabilization, both in the main river and in its main Pyrenean and Iberian tributaries. They show important changes in the channel morphology, vegetation encroachment, narrowing of the fluvial natural space and incision. The causes of these adjustments are the global change that has affected the basin, accompanied by the construction of reservoirs and other numerous direct human pressures, especially gravel extractions and channelization. The Ebro Delta, currently regressive, also responds to the same factors and processes.
