Abstract
The effects of concentration and pH on the miotic activity of four cholinesterase inhibitors were studied in the intact mouse eye: while eserine (physostigmine) behaved in a dose-dependent manner, the other 3 drugs - phospholine-iodide, tacrine and diisopropylfluorophosphate showed no dose dependency in the concentration range investigated. On the other hand, the latter 2 inhibitors exhibited a marked pH dependency. The different structural features of these drugs, which may contribute to the observed difference in miotic pattern are presented and discussed.
