Abstract

Oxprenolol hydrochloride trasicor is a well established non selective beta adrenergic receptor blocking agent with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity and membrane stabilizing ability. It is particularly efficacious in reducing the frequency of anginal attacks in ischemic heart disease, and either alone or in combination with other agents is firmly established as a major anti hypertensive agent. Oxprenolol was shown to be the most effective beta blocker in simulated emotional stress and widespread clinical use demonstrated a low incidence of side effects, especially when compared with existing agents in the treatment of hypertension. It is concluded that oxprenolol, as one of the major beta blockers, should be an integral component of therapy for hypertension and angina pectoris.
