Diseases of the aorta

Abstract

The aorta and its branches are subject to many diseases, ranging from common entities (atherosclerosis) to less common disorders (dissection, congenital abnormalities, trauma). Aneurysmal disease, aortic dissection, aortic trauma, and coarctation of the aorta are discussed in detail. Two of the more common disorders, aortoiliac occlusive disease and atheromatous emboli have been reviwed in prior issues of Current Opinion in Cardiology and are not discussed here.
